WESTERN MIDSTREAM is working to ensure houston's foster care community is back-to-school ready
Children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The compounding traumas of this experience, the instability of multiple placement changes, and a system that too often lets children slip through the cracks, leads to many children falling months or years behind from an educational standpoint.
SIGN UP TO PROVIDE SUPPLIES
Western Midstream is partnering with local nonprofit, Houston Angels, to sponsor backpacks filled with school supplies for families and youth in foster care. Employees can sign up to purchase school supplies from a pre-determined list.
There will be drop-off boxes located in any of the coffee/break rooms on WES floors (28 -31). There will be a sorting/packing event at the office in late June (date and time will be published in Benevity). And for those looking to take their impact to the next level - WES employees can also sign up to deliver backpacks to families on their side of town (view locations through the sign up page). Remember - you can submit any volunteer hours to be financially matched by WES!
MORE ABOUT HOUSTON ANGELS
Houston Angels is the local chapter of the national nonprofit organization, National Angels, which works to ensure every child in foster care feels a deep sense of belonging, every youth reaches their fullest potential and achieves their dreams, and every fostering family feels supported along their journey. Their programs match foster families and youth with committed volunteers from their zip code, who meet with them regularly to provide financial and emotional support and/or one-on-one mentorship. They also help the local foster care community celebrate birthdays and adoptions, and provide access to resources like back-to-school supplies and Christmas gifts.
