Every 2 minutes, a child is removed from their home due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
From the time that children first enter the foster care system until they are reunified with their family, adopted by a new one, or age out of care, they often move many different times - between foster homes, shelters, group living facilities, or treatment centers. This trauma and instability compounds over time. When these wounds fail to heal, children and youth can become increasingly vulnerable to future homelessness, human trafficking, poverty, incarceration, and mental health issues. Houston Angels was created to build sustainable foster homes across Greater Houston, and empower children and youth in care to thrive and succeed. Our programs match foster families and youth with volunteers from the Houston community to receive consistent, tailored support and/or one-on-one mentorship. We also provide additional resources, help celebrate adoptions and birthdays, provide school supplies and holiday gifts, and more. |
