MELISSA MCGRATH
Mama of 2, Wife, Dreamer, Learner, Documenter
Likes: positive people, quality family time, morning coffee and evening wine, taking photos, traveling somewhere new, inspiring books and podcasts, deep conversation
Dislikes: spiders, Houston allergies, chronic negativity or pessimism
Melissa was born and raised up in the quiet countryside of New Jersey (yes, this exists!) She now lives in Sugar Land with her husband and high school sweetheart, Jonathan, and their two energetic toddlers, Evan and Avery. Prior to having her two children and relocating, Melissa worked at a marketing agency as well as two nonprofit organizations.
Melissa heard National Angels founder, Susan Ramirez, give a striking interview about the realities of the troubled foster care system and it left a life-changing impression on her. She can’t imagine a world where either of her two toddlers goes to bed at night without their bedtime story, hugs and kisses and believing they are safe, loved and cherished. There are too many children in this world who grow up experiencing the opposite – even right in our nation’s own foster care system, which she admittedly knew little about. But when she heard about what Susan and National Angels was doing to help support these children, she immediately knew that she had to get involved. Melissa believes that her journey has specifically led her to this opportunity to lead Houston’s chapter, and she is determined to make a positive impact for Houston’s foster care community.
